University of Arkansas tailback Raheim Sanders has never been a big talker, but he's starting to come out of his shell after powering for an SEC-best 870 rushing yards though seven games to rank eighth in the country. Sanders, who is averaging 124.3 rushing yards per game, is on pace to accumulate 1,491 rushing yards through 12 games, a total that would slot him at fourth on the school's single-season rushing chart behind two big seasons from Darren McFadden (1,830 in 2007; 1,647 in 2006) and Alex Collins' 1,577 yards in 2015.

Sanders and the Razorbacks face the SEC's worst run defense on Saturday at Auburn. The Tigers' 204.4 rushing yards per game, including 448 by Ole Miss and 292 by Georgia in their past two games. "Very serious kid. I mean very serious," Coach Sam Pittman said to describe Sanders on Wednesday. "But where he's come around a little bit more is his personality. He's talking more. Not overly confident and certainly not close to cocky, but he feels good about what he's doing, and he should, and I think he's come a long way there." Sanders has five 100-yard outings in seven games, and the sophomore, who signed with Arkansas as a wideout, is coming off a career-best 175-yard effort in a 52-35 win at BYU that included 2 touchdowns on 15 carries. Speaking after that game, Sanders said he didn't know how to communicate well with the team's offensive linemen when he came in as a freshman receiver. "I didn't even know their names as much, so I wasn't communicating with them well," Sanders said. Spencer Rattler overcame two early turnovers and threw the go-ahead touchdown pass in the third quarter, Jalen Brooks ran for an insurance score midway through the fourth and South Carolina scored 17 unanswered points to beat No. 13 Kentucky 24-14 on Saturday night for its third consecutive victory. Kentucky started freshman Kaiya Sheron at quarterback in place of injured senior Will Levis, who wore a protective on his left foot. MarShawn Lloyd scored a 2-yard touchdown run on the Gamecocks' first snap, immediately after Kentucky's Chris Rodriguez Jr. fumbled on the opening play. That quickly seized momentum against the Wildcats (3-3, 1-2 Southeastern Conference). South Carolina (4-2, 1-2) moved ahead early in the third quarter, when Rattler (14 of 19, 177 yards) hit Antwane Wells Jr. in the flat and the junior darted past a defender for a 42-yard touchdown and 14-7 lead. Mitch Jeter's 32-yard field goal later in the period provided a 10-point cushion that Brooks extended to 17 points with a 24-yard TD run with 7:02 remaining.

Sheron (15 of 27, 178 yards) tossed a 10-yard TD pass JuTahn McClain with 2:49 left, his second of the game, but the Wildcats fell for the second consecutive week in league play. Mystery preceded this defeat as Levis entered Kroger Field with a boot on his left foot and did not participate in warmups with teammates. Earlier this week, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops referred to a finger injury Levis sustained in last week's 22-19 loss to No. 9 Mississippi, but didn't mention any foot injury and remained mum on the quarterback's status on Thursday. Disaster quickly followed with Rodriguez's fumble, a blocked punt and Matt Ruffolo's missed 45-yard field goal that bounced off the left upright. Sheron regrouped to fake a toss to Rodriguez and hit wide-open Jordan Dingle for the tying touchdown in the second quarter, but Kentucky was held to its lowest output since losing 30-13 to top-ranked Georgia 30-13 last season. - South Carolina/AP College Football

Rocket Sanders and Bryce Stephens had long scoring plays in a 2:22 span of the fourth quarter to help No. 10 Arkansas beat Missouri State and former Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino 38-27 on Saturday night. Sanders caught a shovel pass for a 73-yard touchdown scamper with 11:38 left and Stephens returned Missouri State's ensuing punt 82 yards to give Arkansas (3-0) its first lead of the game at 31-27. Petrino coached Arkansas from 2008 to 2011 before being fired in spring of 2012 after a motorcycle wreck and proceeding scandal.

He won 11 games and 10 games in his final two seasons with the Razorbacks. Arkansas hasn't reached the double-digit win mark since. "Their team wasn't better than us today because we beat them, but Coach was better than me today and I've got to get that fixed," Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said. Arkansas rallied after Missouri State (2-1), took a 17-0 lead, tying it at 17 in the third quarter. Back-to-back scores late in the third quarter gave the Bears a 10-point edge with 12:04 left before Sanders and Stephens scored. Sanders ran for a career-high 167 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. KJ Jefferson threw for a career-high 385 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. South Carolina's defense is dealing with some tough injury news. Defensive starters Jordan Strachan and Mo Kaba will miss the remainder of the season, USC confirmed on Monday. Both suffered ACL injuries in Saturday's 44-30 loss to Arkansas. "I'm extremely disappointed and heart-broken for both of these young men," Beamer said through a statement. "They both worked really hard to prepare for this season and were off to great starts for us. Their best football is still in front of them." Kaba, a junior, was injured in the second quarter while pressuring KJ Jefferson in the backfield. He was helped off the field and didn't put much weight on his leg. South Carolina lost starting linebacker Mohamed Kaba and backup defensive end Jordan Strachan for the season after both suffered ACL injuries during a weekend loss at Arkansas. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer announced the status of both players Monday, two days after the 44-30 loss to the Razorbacks. It's a huge blow for a South Carolina defense that faces No. 1 Georgia at home Saturday. Kaba is a 6-foot-2, 239 pound junior from Clinton, North Carolina, who started the first two games for South Carolina (1-1). He had eight tackles and a pass breakup. The 6-5, 245-pound Strachan is from Kingsland, Georgia, and in his sixth year of football after transferring from Georgia State. Strachan had 10 tackles and led the Gamecocks with three stops behind the line of scrimmage. "I'm extremely disappointed and heartbroken for both of these young men,” Beamer said in a statement. Rocket Sanders ran for a career-high 156 yards and scored Arkansas' first two touchdowns, and KJ Jefferson ran for a score and threw for another to lift the No. 16 Razorbacks past South Carolina 44-30 on Saturday. Jefferson led Arkansas (2-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) on three scoring drives in the fourth quarter, never allowing South Carolina to rally. He finished 18 of 21 for 162 yards passing and ran for 67 yards. A 23-yard touchdown pass to Warren Thompson with 12:09 left provided the key score, giving Arkansas a 19-point edge. South Carolina had fumbled on its previous drive after Jefferson's 2-yard touchdown run. Arkansas scored on its first three possessions of the game, all of which went for 12 plays or more.

Sanders finished the first two and freshman Rashod Dubinion had his first career touchdown, giving Arkansas a 21-3 lead in the second quarter. Spencer Rattler was 23 of 38 with 361 yards passing for South Carolina (1-1, 0-1), though 173 of those came in the fourth quarter when the Gamecocks were chasing from way behind. Rattler's 62-yard touchdown pass to Antwane Wells Jr. in the third quarter pulled the Gamecocks within five. When he sought Wells in the end zone again in the fourth, he was intercepted by Dwight McGlothern. Arkansas, which was seventh in FBS averaging 228 yards a game on the ground last year, ran for 300 against South Carolina.
